Such salvific faith is rooted in the word (Ps. 95:7; Isa. 55:3) and obedience (Rom. 1:5).[1]

Jonah was definately in the belly of the fish, but also a sign.

Three days in the belly of the great fish: Jesus Christ, three days in the heart of the earth.

Jonah preached to Nineveh, and they were called to repent.

Jesus came as the greater sign — crucified, buried, and risen — calling sinners to repent and believe the gospel.

The story of Jonah was never just about Jonah. It points us to Christ, our risen Saviour.

“Just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 12:40)

The more we know God through his word, the more we see that he is not like us. He is infinitely greater, perfectly holy, and worthy of all worship.

May we not create a god in our own image, but bow before the God who has revealed himself in Scripture.

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.” (Ps 145:3)

Who offers eternal salvation
