Is sin venial and mortal?

Scripture teaches that all sin is serious, because “the wages of sin is death.” (Rom. 6:23)

Sin brings death, but the gospel gives us the greater truth: God offers eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“The sting of death is sin… But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 15:56–57)

Our hope is not in trying to make sin seem small — it is in Christ, who gives forgiveness, victory, and eternal life. ✝️

Do we understand mercy in light of judgment?

Scripture speaks seriously about judgment — but it also shows the greatness of God’s mercy.

Jesus said, “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.” (John 5:24)

The contrast is clear: judgment is real, but in Christ there is life. Mercy is not God ignoring sin; it is God providing a way of salvation through his son. ✝️

From death to life. From judgment to mercy. Through Christ.

After the fall in Genesis 3, what was cursed?

Scripture specifically says the serpent was cursed and the ground was cursed because of Adam.

“The LORD God said to the serpent… ‘cursed are you…’” (Gen. 3:14)

And to Adam:

“Cursed is the ground because of you…” (Gen. 3:17)

Humanity fell into sin and came under its consequences, but the wording of Genesis 3 places the explicit curse on the serpent and the ground.

Sin changed everything — but even in Genesis 3, God’s plan of redemption was already unfolding. ✝️

What is unrighteousness?

Scripture shows us that unrighteousness is a life shaped by sin and rebellion against God. Some examples are cited. Left to ourselves, none of us can claim the righteousness God requires.

But the good news is that righteousness is not something we earn — it is given through faith in Jesus Christ.

“The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.” (Rom. 3:22) ✝️

The answer to unrighteousness is Christ.

Should we call on the dead?

Scripture points us in a different direction.

God warns his people not to turn to mediums or necromancers (people who claim to talk to the dead), but instead to call on him in prayer.

“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.” (Jer. 29:12)

Our hope, guidance and help are not found in trying to reach the dead — they are found in the living God who hears us. ✝️
